Waimairi Beach Golf Club was established in 1932. In the 1960’s-70’s the Canterbury Education Board then owned the land and organized for the schools of Canterbury to plant pine trees thorough the course and over time,
The course became known as a tough test of accurate driving and lightening fast greens. In 2000 the Club purchased the land and from 2007-2012 cleared the pines. The earthquakes of 2010/2011 caused considerable damage. The Club asked Kura Design Ltd to redesign the course with a view to mitigating any future earthquake damage and to make the course into a links course.
The new course opened in May 2013. With most of the old pine trees gone and a selection of dune sand bunkers and large waste areas, gently rolling and fast greens, the course is now a real test of placement and finesse.
The new clubhouse will be completed in Jan/Feb 2014, but bar facilities are still available until then, with a fully stocked Pro Shop and hire options including carts. Full subscriptions at present are $895 per annum with various other options available, including summer Membership and Nine Hole Men and Ladies. Match days are Tuesday and Saturday for Ladies and Wednesday and Saturday for Men. A 12 hole twilight competition is run each Friday during daylight saving hours commencing at 3.30pm. Current green fees are $40.00 (non affiliated) and $30 (affiliated).
