The Glenorchy Golf Club is a charming, rustic 9-hole golf course located at the head of Lake Wakatipu, just a scenic 45-minute drive from Queenstown, New Zealand.
Nestled within the town’s recreation grounds on the corner of Mull and Oban Street, this flat, easy-walking parkland course provides breathtaking 360-degree views of the snow-capped Humboldt and Richardson mountain ranges. The breathtaking backdrop famously inspired many settings seen in the Lord of the Rings films.

Built largely through local volunteer efforts, the course welcomes both casual visitors and competitive players.
It famously operates on a budget-friendly “honesty box” green fee system ($10–$20 per round). Golf clubs can be hired nearby at the Glenorchy Information Centre, and pull trolleys are free to use at the clubhouse.
Weekly 18-hole club competitions take place on Sundays at 1:00 PM in the winter and 3:00 PM during daylight saving time.
