Blake's Coaching Philosophy

As a coach my aim is to understand my client's goals, individual learning styles and physical strengths. This will allow me to design a swing that will help my client to reach their individual goals. In my experience every golfer is different, this means that there is not one swing model that will work for everyone.

I make sure I give my clients enough information for them to take on the course, rather than information overload. At the end of each lesson I make sure the client has a full understanding on what they need to work on. The last thing that a player wants is too much information which is going to make them more confused than they were in the beginning. I believe that by having a friendly and fun environment that my clients are able to relax and get more out of their lesson.

Zaine Mikkelson - North Harbour

Zaine-MikkelsonI came to game of golf at the age of 6 . I was inspired by my school teacher who taught me after school answering all my questions which were many and varied.

My junior years were spent in New Zealand playing Golf in Clubs and Representative Golf. Later in London I played as a member of Richmond and Cheltenham Golf Clubs . I dedicated myself to gaining a deeper understanding of the game and the discipline in movement and form. From here my passion for the Game developed.

Ten years later I returned to New Zealand training under Terry Kendall at Chamberlain Park to become a professional. I played locally and throughout Australasia and the Pacific in a Professional capacity. When injury got in the way I turned a negative into a positive, studied the reasons for my injury and from there developed my pursuit of excellence in the prevention of injury. From this stand point I wrote articles on the connection between the two.

For five years I coached at Chamberlain Park GC and I assisted coaching with Gillian Bannan,Terry Kendall, Bob McDonald and John Lister. I couldn't getting enough of their knowledge and experience. They were a major force in my understanding the importance of compassion with the Student. I must acknowledge Gillian Bannan for all the work she has done for golf, not only here in New Zealand, but the World.

After two years at Akarana Golf Course and a further ten years at Waitemata Golf Course I decide to commit my life to coaching full time.

My Philosophy is quite simple firstly realise your needs, goals, targets and expectations. Understand the technical, physical, mental, visual or emotional aspects will then make learning a joy. You will find your mind and body will be in tune, my job is to create that harmony and ensure your success.

Golf Works Physiotherapy - Auckland

Trevor MontgomeryThe perfect golf swing is something that many golfers aspire to achieve. It is the swing that golfers can spend vast amounts of time and money trying to attain. However, to attain the perfect swing you require the perfect body - and the perfect body is something most golfers don't have.

The effects that daily living has on a golfer's body are progressive and insidious. The way we posture and move ourselves on a daily basis can affect the ability for our bodies to work optimally in a golf swing. Key muscle imbalances develop when we use our bodies poorly over the years. Poor movement habits develop as we compensate for old injuries. New injuries occur as we compensate for poor postures, poor movement habits and old injuries. And all these can manifest in your golf swing. And you wonder why it's so hard to play golf?

The best and worst trait of the human body is its ability to adapt. This adaptability may allow many of us to swing a golf club but it may also cause golfers to spend countless hours trying to make swing changes that just won't stick. So Golf Works was founded to optimize the human body for golf.
About Golf Works Physiotherapy
Trevor Montgomery is New Zealand-trained physiotherapist who holds an undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy, a postgraduate diploma in Manipulative Physiotherapy, a postgraduate certificate in acupuncture and a Masters of Health Science (1st Class Hons) from the Auckland University of Technology. He qualified in 1996 and has owned a physiotherapy practice since 1997. Since graduating Trevor has developed a comprehensive tool kit to help him solve difficult musculoskeletal problems in both the golfer and non-golfer alike. Trevor is currently the only Level 3 TPI certified Medical Professional in New Zealand and one of only three in Australasia.

Trevor is the founder of Golf Works Ltd and Golf Kinetics Ltd in New Zealand which has been providing golf-specific physiotherapy and training programmes for touring professional and elite amateur and club golfers since 1998 when he was asked to be the physiotherapist at the World Cup of Golf at Gulf Harbour Country Club. Since then he has worked with a large number of golfers, including professionals on the US, European, Asian and Australasian PGA tours.

Trevor utilizes his special interest in accelerated motor learning, his passion for problem solving and his diverse range of physiotherapy skill sets to help golfers 'Maximize their Swing Potential', providing all levels of golfers with bodies that will help them to optimize their golf swings and help them to realize their golfing potential.

Trevor has lectured extensively in New Zealand and Australia since 2006 on the use of segmental and dry needling to assist in resolving difficult musculoskeletal conditions commonly found in golfers. Trevor has been lecturing on the NZPGA Golf Coach Trainee programme since 2008, and has been working with the New Zealand Golf high performance squads since 2003. Trevor was also a New Zealand Academy of Sport Physiotherapy Provider for Golf until the sport lost its funding in 2007. Trevor's Master's thesis focused on the effects that alterations in set up posture have on a golfer's ability to develop X-factor in the golf swing. Trevor was privileged to be accepted to speak on the topic at the World Golf Fitness Summit in Orlando, Florida in 2010.
