TeMarua

The Te Marua Golf Club is an 18 hole course situated in a wonderful river and bush rural setting, 5-10 minutes drive from the Upper Hutt City Centre. The course is built on gently undulating ground adjacent to the Hutt River, with just enough elevation on some holes to provide an additional challenge. The river is in play on the first hole but runs adjacent to 8 holes and many balls end up working their way towards the Wellington harbour.

The existing layout was designed in the mid 1960s by the American Golf Course Architect Commander Harris who later combined with well known golfer Peter Thompson of Australia to design the Wairakei course near Taupo. He worked with the original character of the land to create a picturesque course, where native birds flourish.

The course has an average degree of difficulty, making the most of the natural hazards which can make their presence known all too easily. A few bunkers are the only artificial hazards to have been added to the course over the years, showing that the original design has stood the test of time.

Shandon is very conveniently located, just a ten minute drive from central Wellington, in the village of Petone. The golf course is bordered on the east by the Hutt River with the Petone foreshore just a stone's throw away. Proximity to the coast means the course maintains excellent playability throughout the year.

Shandon boasts a welcoming and thriving club enviroment. There are a number of men's and women's playing groups as well as a junior academy which provides a pathway for young golfers to become involved in club activities and competition. Shandon has always had strong representation in interclub events and has seen a number of golfers achieve national and international success.

Royal Wellington

A newly designed (2013), Turner MacPherson championship course in a stunning parkland setting, arguably one of the finest club courses and club house in New Zealand. The Heretaunga course is, arguably, New Zealand's finest private members parkland course and certainly one of its most beautiful. Sited on an ancient river bed it weaves its way over crumpled ground through cultivated parkland hosting thousands of mature native and exotic trees. Birdlife is abundant. Water in the form of several creeks and a large lake are all in play and present a true challenge for the adventurers and the unwary. Undulating greens complexes provide further challenge. Heretaunga is a true test of golf and the most beautiful walk in the park.

The par 5, 4th, the signature hole - exemplifies the Turner MacPherson approach and sets up as follows. From the tee, the fairway splits in two, either side of a stream. Over the stream, and past a strategically placed bunker, the fairway cambers towards a lake and narrows dramatically as it gets closer to the green. The sloping, wide but narrow green sits behind the lake, nearly at right angles to the line of play, making hitting the green with a long approach a tricky proposition. This hole is probably the best example on the entire course for demonstrating how the new layout can be played by golfers of all levels.

The club was founded in 1895 on a site on the Miramar peninsular, the then Wellington Golf Club moved to Heretaunga over 100 years ago. Situated on a parkland site adjacent to the Hutt River, the club has hosted seven NZ Open Championships since 1912 and in 2004 became the first golf club in the country to receive Royal status.

Paraparaumu

Regarded by many as one of the greatest links courses in the southern hemisphere, Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club is a world renowned layout on the undulating dune land of the Kapiti Coast. Located just 45 minute's drive from New Zealand's Capital City, Wellington, the course has hosted the New Zealand Open 12 times. A record unsurpassed by any other course. In 2002 it hosted the worlds number 1 golfer, Tiger Woods.

The course was designed in 1949 by former Australian Open champion Alex Russell, the highly acclaimed course architect and onetime partner of Dr Alister MacKenzie, the world renowned course architect. The course has been widely acclaimed over the years. The great Australian golfer, Peter Thomson - winner of the British Open on five occasions and nine times New Zealand Open champion, had this to say about the course;

"I loved it instantly. We had nothing like it in Australia , which must have struck Alex Russell, who did the layout. Course designing approaches an art form, especially done in a perfect modelling medium like volcanic sand. Russell must have been ecstatic. What was left after his departure was a gem of enjoyment, a monument to the game and a gift to the future. When we all turn to dust, "Paraparaumu" the golf, should be still lying there as it was when the first golfers came by, with Kapiti an off-shore island standing guard to see that no one steals it away. And the winds will ever blow to test the golfer's will and integrity. Paraparaumu will be famed for a century yet."

Martinborough

The Martinborough Golf Course is a full 18 hole, par 72 course, 5546 metres in length. It is flat to gently undulating with easy walking and plenty of attractive trees, inlcuding mature oaks lining several fairways.

A good number of greens on the course are quite small which makes for a challenge, but perhaps the most challenging holes are #3 and #12 with narrow fairways that run parallel to the road. Many a golf ball ends up in the neighbouring vineyards from a wayward swing.

The holes are interestingly named and represent the surrounding countryside, including Bull Hill (the highest point in the Haurangi Ranges), Tablelands, Hinakura, Tote (which refers back to the courses previous existence as a race track), Ruffan Glen and Martins (named for the Martin family who gifted land to the Borough).

Manor Park is somewhat unique as it is a golf and wildlife park and the Club holds an internationally recognised sanctuary environmental certification from Audubon International, New York. It has an 18-hole championship par 71 golf course set in beautiful native bush and wetlands with gently rolling fairways bordered by the Hutt River on the eastern side and the Haywards Stream to the west and is home to 16 different specie of bird. Audubon International's Co-operative Sanctuary Programme strives to achieve compatibility of both the needs of the golfer and the environment in a harmonious and complementary way.

The Club is also well known for its extensive practice facilities including a par 3 practice hole, fairway practice area and separate two-tiered chipping, putting and bunker practice green as well as modern driving nets.

The Club has had many New Zealand and provincial representatives over the years, including current high- profile New Zealand touring professionals, such as its Honorary Members Michael Campbell (US Open winner), Lynnette Brooky and Gareth Paddison.

Karori

Karori Golf Club extends a warm welcome to visitors and encourages you to play our 18 hole course or our 9 hole Goldfields Pitch n Putt course. Our staff and members will ensure that your visit to Karori is enjoyable.

Karori Golf Course is located only 13.5km (25 minutes drive) from the central city in the Makara Valley on South Makara Road and only 10 minutes drive from Karori Park. Click here to see map and get driving directions.

The course is set in an idyllic country location surrounded by native bush clad hills where only sounds you hear are birds and farm animals. The championship blue course is 5628m and the white club course is 5392m, both are par 70. The women's and men's yellow course is 4810m and par 71.

The fairways are tree lined and there are two stony streams that meander across or beside all but four holes. The course rewards accuracy off the tee and several holes play to elevated greens making otherwise straightforward approaches significantly more challenging.

The greens are some of the best browntop putting surfaces around. They can appear relatively flat but beware of the breaks and if your ball is above the hole you may be left with a tricky downhill putt.

The Goldfields Pitch n Putt is Wellington's only 9 hole pitch and putt course with holes from 45m to 90m long. It is a good way to start for people new to the game and also is great fun for a family day out.

The club has excellent practice facilities with a 240m long practice fairway, 3 bay driving nets, chipping green including bunkers and putting greens.

The clubhouse provides a place to relax after your game with café and bar services available on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

There are usually plenty of Tee times available and visitors are welcome every day.
